Rick James

Funklegenda Rick Jamesin laulujen sanoituksista tulisi suorittaa jonkinlainen esitys. Voi kyllä olla, että asiassa kävisi niin että aikaiseksi saisi vain oman hirveän innostuksen eikä paperille mitään mieltä.

Jonkinlaisen irvistyksen ne kyllä ansaitsisivat. Mutta minkä vuoksi siitä jumalattomasta määrästä musiikkia mitä on kuunnellut on niin vaikea kirjoittaa mitään järkevää? Sama pätee pop-kulttuuriin. Niin kuin nyt Rick James. Se ei tule sieltä itsestä. Tai sitten se ei tietenkään ole muka tarpeeksi vakavaa, serious. Auttaisi tietysti asiaa, jos tajuaisi musiikista muutakin kuin sen kuulostaako se musta hyvältä vai ei. Voihan se olla siunauskin.

Otetaanpa kylpyyn Rick Jamesin levyltä Street Songs (1980) kappale "Give It To Me Baby". Tämän jytädisko-funkrutkaisun Rick aloittaa tilittämällä sieluntuntojaan saavuttuaan illanviettonsa jälkeen kotiinsa oman kullan viereen, ja kuinkas sitten kävikään:
